AIPP is a government-recognized autonomous apex body representing Panchayati Raj Institutions across India. Established in 1958, it aims to strengthen grassroots democracy and support rural development through policy advocacy, training, research, and awareness programs.
The main objective of AIPP is to empower Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) by supporting their constitutional rights, promoting decentralized governance, and addressing rural challenges in areas such as agriculture, education, health, employment, and resource management.
AIPP is an autonomous body recognized by the Government of India. While it works closely with various central and state government departments, it operates independently and receives grant-in-aid support for its initiatives.

AIPP conducts national and state-level conferences, training programs, youth workshops, awareness campaigns, research seminars, and publishes educational materials and a monthly journal called Panchayat Sandesh.
Membership is open to elected Panchayat representatives, officials associated with rural governance, researchers, NGOs, and institutions working in the domain of Panchayati Raj and rural development.
